Undas Specials: Ano Ang Nasa Dako Pa Roon?

'Death moves in mysterious ways ðŸŽ¶'

Demon Hunter - 'On My Side'

Pero tohl, let us take a wild imagination, let's make a guess, ano nga kaya ang feeling pagkatapos ng buhay natin sa mundo?

Demon Hunter - 'Carry Me Down'

Purgatory, as Catholic says, is a place or a state of suffering having the quality of cleansing or purifying before going to heaven. How cleansing is done is we don't know. What kind of creatures are there in purgatory, we don't know. How long will we stay there is we don't know? In purgatory you are purifying but you are purifying it with fire. Everyone in the purgatory under this purifying fire will be saved, while those who are in hell are lost forever. Oh di ba olats na sila agad dun wala na, no return no exchange. Now if the souls are already purified, every tear of suffering that we endured in the purifying process every tear will be wiped away in heaven.

'Charon' - the Ferry Man

Traveling Places: The National Shrine of Saint Padre Pio, Sto.Tomas Batangas

'The solemn place of The National Shrine of Saint Padre Pio, San Pedro, Sto Tomas, Batangas'

Whenever we feel worried or have a lot of worries especially when we feel thankful for all the wonderful things happening in our lives we go to a place where we can give thanks for all our blessings that we received from God. Going here makes me feel at ease and calm, it's as if Padre Pio is really there welcoming everyone.

Thankfully, I finally got the chance to visit the National Shrine of Saint Padre Pio located at San Pedro, Sto. Tomas, Batangas. Special credit to my Tita Merly for making this happen. It was my first time here at the shrine and it really gives a comforting feeling. It was something that you can't explain a very calm and solemn place for everyone, especially for the family.

We boarded the rented van at around 6AM and we arrive at the shrine at 8:00 AM. The second mass started at around 8:30 AM so we got an extra 30 minutes to roam around and take pictures on the very clean and orderly park around the place.

The homily of the mass was easy to understand and it's all about "Thanking God every day for all the blessings and guidance that we received big or small." Most especially in my case, I was a heart surgery survivor. This is my second life so that I'm very thankful to God for this wonderful grace and healing including Saint Padre Pio who was known for the miracles of healing heart diseases. Padre Pio actually died of a heart attack in his cell in San Giovanni Rotondo in Italy in the early morning of September 23, 1968.

Saint Padre Pio is revered as a man of charity and piety. Also known as the patron saint of civil defense volunteers, adolescents, and stress-relief. He is also known as the patron saint of the millennials. Saint Padre Pio's life and works have inspired several devotees in the Roman Catholic Church from all over the world.

Padre Pio is understood above all else as a man of prayer. He prayed almost continuously. His prayers were usually very simple. He loved to pray the Rosary and recommended it to others.

From a small chapel before, Padre Pio has grown into the shrine and many devotees and even tourists go here especially during Holy Week and every September 23 about 10,000 faithful and devotees flocked in the Parish and Shrine in San Pedro, Sto.Tomas Batangas for the feast of the Franciscan stigmatist, Padre Pio.

You will see this phrase, "Pray, Hope and Don't Worry" of Saint Padre Pio everywhere at the National Shrine which will give you hope and faith even more.

The Beatles - 'Let It Be'

This is the top view side of the Church it looks like a dome-type roof, a big hat or salakot. In appearance, the church is one big salakot. Even the other structures around the church bear salakot in their roofs. Salakot is used by farmers and fishermen around the Philippines. It symbolizes God's protection of His children.

These are the extended seats outside the church which can accommodate more people come Holy Week.

Inside this Holy Tower are Saint Padre Pio's portraits from his childhood and the map of the whole shrine.

Demon Hunter - 'Im a Stone'

There are envelopes in the area where you can write your wish/es and slip in a donation to go with your petition.

Pots that are made of clay are also filled with Holy Water, it can be found in every corner of the chapel which allows everyone to bring their own holy water with them, some even drink it as well.

Let's make our visit at the National Shrine of Saint Padre Pio a serene one, if  you're going to bring your whole family, make sure to tell your kids not to run around and make noises as well. Wear a suitable clothes since you're going to a sacred place.

Barcelona Stray Cats

Nope, I'm not talking about Spain. It's just the name of our subdivision owned by the giant firm Camella Homes.

Here in the Philippines, I can say that millions are suffering from homelessness. Children beg for spare coins on the streets, while adults perform the common jobs to survive. We Filipinos do what we can to keep ourselves and our families going, most importantly to have food on our table. Some of these poor families are sleeping under bridges when it's time to retire at night.

What many fail to consider when discussing the country's battle against homelessness, however, is the growing number of stray animals who suffered the same fate as their human counterparts. Stray cats and dogs are labeled puspins and aspins a slang for pusang Pinoy and asong Pinoy, terms that translate as "Filipino cat" and "Filipino dog". Unfortunately, these stray animals seem unwanted compared to purebred, pedigreed companions. You can see a growing number of puspins and aspins in the city pound waiting for some kind-hearted people who will adopt them and unlucky for those who got sick in the dirty city streets sadly they were put down on a so-called "mercy-killing".

These stray animals roam the streets, often attempting to salvage whatever leftover food they can find in garbage cans and canals. If they're lucky, they are rescued and adopted by kind souls willing to welcome them into their homes and give them the comfort and shelter that they need. A normal day for a stray, however, would be lacking much human contact, lest they find themselves in any additional form of danger.

The harsh reality for stray animals is that there are just too many of them. Many people resolution is to harm or kill off entire stray populations for the safety of their own properties and sometimes it's just for fun to hurt them.

I've been feeding strays since 2013 when I purchase a junior mountain bike I noticed that there are many strays on the streets and being an animal lover it really hurts to see the scenery. I've thought of a plan on how can I feed them. I started the Project Pawprints, it's just a thing of my own which I asked my mother to cook a viand for them and mix it with rice to put in a plastic container and distribute it to the hungry strays. The next time I ride during my days off I roam around at the early dawn. I started at 4:00 AM and ride starting from our home up to Zapote. That is my route every rest days and I feed all of the stray dogs and cats that I saw on the highway of Emilio Aguinaldo.

Avril Lavigne - 'Keep Holding On'

Unluckily, I got sick with a chronic condition and I stopped riding in 2016. Though even if I'm having shortness of breath because of my heart problem I'm still giving food by commuting minus the junior mountain bike that I named "blue blink".

Come 2018, all the Glory and Praise to the Lord my surgery become successful. Long story short I'm slowly healing I purchased a new bike and starting to feed stary animals again not on the highway for now but inside our subdivision, here in our community. There are many stray cats here, in every street, in every corner with their kittens following their mother cats roaming around every street looking for left-over foods.

"Muning"

This is my new routine. I use to ride on my break time from my work from home job and since the doctor told me to keep on moving to keep the blood flowing and besides I really need a cardio exercise. It's really high time to activate my biking skills. I said to myself it's time! It's a compatible thing to do cardio exercises and feeding strays as well. So I buy 1 kilo of Friskies for them and travel to Phase 2 to Phase 4 here in Barcelona Homes and distribute the treats for this beautiful hungry creatures.

My home includes 1 dog and 17 cats all of them are puspins, 2 are adoptees. I look at each of them and see no difference in the way that they wake up, stretch, and cry for food early in the morning. I see no difference in the way that they all adore being cuddled. I see no difference in the way that they live, the way that the mother cats taking care of there kittens. I see no difference in the way that they love. It's high time that we look beyond a consideration such as a breed and open our homes to the countless nonhuman animals in search of places to call their own. Or if not, at least we feed them spare but "not rotten" foods.

The Burning Star: Retracing Star City

'As you burned down the smiles we left there, we will wither too'

I had some fond memories in star city. We've been there several times especially in the 90s era. The travel time going to star city from our house at San Andres Bukid, Manila is only just 30 minutes away. When I was a child we usually go there during Holiday seasons. I still remember when I and my cousins along with our aunties and parents enjoyed the rides of star city. Sighs, how I miss those days. We experienced the adrenalin rush with the extreme rides we first had when we entered the gate of star city. These kinds of rides are on top of our list.

At the Star City

A place for entertainment, amusement, and pleasure, Star City is most lively during Christmas holidays when adults and kids take delight to experience exciting rides coupled with a flea market, shopping and live concert shows.

The place is crowded with people waiting for the opening of the park. And the lines are long at the entrance. It was a joyous feeling for the kids like us as you can see never-ending colorful lights at the scenery and the songs of Christmas are playing in the air. Nothing but a happy heart is all that I can feel.

Like many years before, the carousel is the first ride that you can spot upon entering the venue. Ask me if I did ride the carousel? Well, no I guess I'm too old for that. But back on our Foundation day in elementary days, of course, I did ride the second famous ride in the carnival. In our time, we call it the "Merry-go-rounds".

People all over the world have enjoyed these rotating devices for centuries. Rotating devices of various sorts were in used across Europe and America as early as 500 AD. Carousel-makers back in the day introduced the use of steam engines in merry-go-rounds and carousels began to more closely resemble what we would recognize today.

Here is the list of KIDDIE RIDES in Star City.

The Quack-quack

It's a six-duck tub with seating up to four.

Little Tykes

It's a giant playground for kids. Kids can release all that energy and have hours of indoor fun.

The Rodeo

A different kind of vehicles that travel up and down in a form of the convoy along a loop track.

Ball Pool

Little kids will love exploring a maze of tubes ending up in a slide of softballs on the surface.

Tea Cup

That same old ride which you can spin in a giant-sized teacup.

Kiddie Bump Car

Definitely, one of my favorite ride when I was a kid.

Kiddie Wheel

A Ferris wheel for kids minus the daunting height.

Poets of the Fall - 'Carnival of Rust'

ADULT RIDES

The Zyklon Loop

One can say "one hell of a ride." This is one of the famous rides in Star City. It's a roller coaster that travels at the speed of 60 kph and features a 60-degree drop, banking turns of over 720 degrees. This is the country's first imported 360-degree loop coaster. Trust me a tito like me won't ride that, "magkamatayan na."

Star Flyer

Another roller coaster ride that became controversial in 2009. A man died after falling from the ride. A witness said the man's body hit the metal framing of the ride before finally falling to the ground. The Star Flyer is among the few rides that survived a fire on October 2, 2019, which destroyed most of the amusement park.

Surf Dance

If you have vertigo and afraid of heights don't dare to experience this ride. The first and only of its kind in the Philippines is a family gondola ride that is about the height of a five-story building. The 44-seat ride swings upwards, downwards, and sideways. So you bet, you'll gonna throw up later.

Blizzard

It is an all-family roller coaster ride that will take you to an exciting experience.

Wild River

The ride consists of a dozen log boats that travel down a channel propelled by a strong current of water. The boats allowed to drop freely from the height of up to 15 meters into a SPLASHHHH!!! For me, it's an anti-stress ride because of the cold water splashing at your face.

Super Viking

It is a pirate ship-inspired family ride that swings forward and backward horizontally.

Gabi ng Lagim

Filipinos with an obsession for local folklore may just find what they are looking for at Star City's Gabi ng Lagim. Inspired by a longtime radio program of the same title, the attraction's horror house features the creepiest creatures in the Philippine mythology - from the nuno sa punso, tikbalang, kapre, manananggal to the zombie creatures - as well as the scariest traditional practices of Filipinos like kulam and kultos.

The horror house is more realistic, they added sound effects taken from the Gabi ng Lagim radio show. The lighting also summons a truly spine-chilling feel.

THE DOWNFALL OF STAR CITY / FIRE RAGE

An early morning fire on October 2, 2019, burned through 80 percent of the Star City complex in Pasay City, including the theme park that has been a staple "pasyalan" of Filipino families during the holiday season for nearly three decades. The amusement park opened its doors in 1991 and has an annual attendance of about 1.5 million people according to the books.

Initial investigations showed the fire started in the storage facility filled with stuffed toys and other assorted prizes. Investigators are looking at electrical trouble and arson as possible causes of the fire
based on how quickly the blaze spread.

The memories of our childhood in this place will never be forgotten. As you burn down the smiles we left there we will wither too.  All my childhood memories we're there and it was just burned to ashes. Thank you for the 3 decades.

1. HINDI KA MABOBOBO

Kung wala kang trabaho. Kung wala kang tinatrabaho sa iyong trabaho. Kung wala kang pasok. O kung wala kang ginagawa sa mundo. Kung blogger ka, siguradong hindi ka mabobobo. Kasi kapag nagsulat ka ginagamit mo utak mo. Never ito naghihibernate.

Five years. Wow. Inuugat na ako dito sa blogspot.
